Srinagar,21 Sept (KNO) : Jammu and Kashmir Doctors cordination committee (JKDCC) today on Thursday reiterated their demand that the Government must strictly follow the laid down procedure and guidelines while making selection of new Director for Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) and Jammu (DHSJ).

The said appointments should not be delayed for any longer as health department is most important department and many infrastructure projects get delayed. Even for the interim arrangement , seniority, merit and other aspects prescribed under set rules and regulations should strictly be followed. Previously such appointments have been marred by political influences.

Appointment of directors for Jammu and kashmir health services being not only a crucial administrative requirement, but is also a procedural requirement that has to be full filled said president Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK), Dr Suhail Naik. The process of selection should include selection of five senior most doctors with clear seniority and credibility to face the selection Commitee. Those to contest the coveted post must have outstanding and process of selection should be open and fair and that would bring transparency and openness in the whole process Dr Naik added. General secretary DAK , Dr Owais H Dar said, a team of experts in the field should assess the eligible candidates and choose the best.”He said instead, the whole selection process is kept hidden and secret, which is unfair, non-transparent and thus manipulative.

This paves the way for picking up a favourite, thereby blocking the opportunities of aspirants who are not even considered for the posts. Dr Abdul Hamid Parry, President Chenab Valley Doctors Association (CVDA) has further demanded that only a medical doctor either an eligible senior consultant or Eligible senior most Medical officer should be appointed as director health as appointment of non medico bureaucrat will derail the Health department. Dr Nazir A Wani, President JKSCD termed the delay in the appointment of Director Health Services Kashmir as unfortunate and stressed honorable Governor to intervene personally.

President Doctors Association Jammu, Dr Balvinder Singh urged Governor's adminstration to appoint directors for Jammu as well as Kashmir divisions strictly on merit and seniority basis. Dr Imteyaz Banday, President, SDSJK said that since transparency remains the top priority in Governor's rule, we hope that the said appointments will be done on priority and without any prejudice.

Dr Mohd Yusuf Tak, Convenor Jammu and Kashmir Doctors cordination committee (JKDCC) said that doctors bodies across the state including DAK, DAJ, CVDA, SCD, SDSJK and Ladakh Doctors Associations have unanimously decided to protest vehemently , if any non-medico or bureaucrat is appointed as director for either Jammu or kashmir health services.
